Supreme Court Rejects Congress Leader Pawan Khera’s Plea in Objectionable Remarks Case

The Supreme Court, on Thursday, dismissed a petition put forth by Congress leader Pawan Khera challenging the Allahabad High Court’s decision to reject his plea for quashing criminal proceedings. The proceedings were initiated against him for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A bench comprising Justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta conveyed their lack of inclination to interfere with the high court’s order. In response to the plea, the bench straightforwardly stated, “Sorry, we are not inclined.”

The high court, on August 17 of the previous year, had already dismissed Khera’s initial plea, emphasizing that the evidence collected by the investigating officer could not be assessed within the framework of a petition filed under section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) intended for quashing the case.
