Kolkata’s Ram Mandir chooses non-political stance for Ayodhya celebration

In a notable decision, Kolkata’s Ram Mandir, situated near Jorasanko, has opted to keep politics at bay during the Ayodhya consecration event on January 22. The temple, with a history of hosting various political figures, including former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has decided not to extend invitations to any political personalities for the celebration.

Vijay Joshi, Secretary of Seth Soorajmal Jalan Trust managing the temple, stated, “The temple, existing for over eight decades, has maintained cordial relations with every political party but has never sought patronage. In line with this tradition, no political leaders have been invited for the celebration on Jan 22.”

Highlighting the significance of the consecration program, Joshi mentioned, “This event holds special importance for Hindus nationwide, especially for those unable to attend the Ayodhya program. Hence, a special puja is being organized.”

Founded by Mohanlal Jalan in 1941, the temple and the associated girls’ school draw a considerable crowd on Ram Navami, with expectations of a large turnout on Jan 22. Joshi added, “We anticipate a substantial number of devotees, having secured necessary permissions from Kolkata Police. The puja will commence at 8 am, and LED screens will be installed for live-streaming the Ayodhya consecration program.”
