Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief resigns, YS Sharmila poised as potential successor
Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief, Gidugu Rudra Raju, has tendered his resignation, as per sources informed India Today TV. The resignation comes amid speculation that YS Sharmila, who recently joined the Congress, is likely to step into the role of the new state president. Official confirmation is expected soon from the Congress.
Earlier in the month, YS Sharmila, sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, formally merged her YSR Telangana Congress party with the Congress. Praising the Congress as the largest secular party in the country, Sharmila emphasized its commitment to serving all communities and fostering unity among diverse sections of the population.
Prior to her entry into the Congress, YS Sharmila had expressed steadfast support for the party. Notably, she refrained from contesting in the Telangana elections to avoid a potential split in votes, a move aimed at preventing any advantage to former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
