Congress Announces Coordinators for 539 Lok Sabha Constituencies, Accelerates Preparations for INDIA Bloc in Upcoming Polls
The Congress party took a significant stride towards gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls by unveiling a list of coordinators for 539 parliamentary constituencies. These coordinators, appointed to assess the political landscape in their respective areas, will play a crucial role in providing feedback to party leadership for seat-sharing talks within the INDIA bloc.
In a post on X, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh shared the announcement, stating, “The Congress party has just released the list of coordinators covering 539 Parliamentary constituencies with 4 more to come soon. Hain Taiyaar Hum! Badlega Bharat. Jeetega INDIA!” The move comes as part of the Congress party’s strategic preparations, and the list includes observers who will have access to each parliamentary constituency.
During a press conference on Saturday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized that the party had finalized observers for all 500 plus constituencies, laying the groundwork for the ‘INDIA Alliance.’ The appointment of coordinators is aimed at strengthening the party’s presence in each constituency and facilitating negotiations during seat-sharing talks.
Congress President Kharge promptly approved the proposal for appointing coordinators, with immediate effect, for the upcoming General Elections. The list of coordinators covers 539 constituencies, and additional coordinators for four more constituencies will be released soon.
Formal negotiations for seat-sharing, notably with the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab and Delhi, are set to commence on Monday. The Congress, through its five-member committee on seat-sharing, has initiated talks with various parties, seeking to establish strong alliances. The committee, featuring Mukul Wasnik as convener and senior leaders Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel, has already conducted internal consultations with state Congress chiefs.
In parallel developments, the Pradesh Election Committee of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has been constituted, with Bhupen Borah appointed as chairman and Debabrata Saikia as vice chairman. The committee comprises 38 members, with an additional four ex-officio members. Furthermore, the Congress appointed six vice presidents, seven general secretaries, and 19 secretaries to the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, solidifying its organizational structure in the region. The party also designated a treasurer and appointed 41 executive members in its Tripura unit, led by Asish Saha.
