Dr. Saveera Parkash Becomes First Hindu Woman to Contest Elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In a historic stride, Dr. Saveera Parkash has become the pioneering woman from Pakistan’s minority Hindu community to enter the electoral arena in the volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
A medical professional by vocation, Dr. Parkash officially submitted her nomination papers for the general seat of PK-25 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Buner district last Friday, as disclosed by her father, Om Parkash, to PTI on Tuesday.
Dr. Parkash, aligning herself with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), is set to contest for the general seat in the PK-25 constituency of the KPK Assembly, representing the picturesque Buner region.
In a further demonstration of her commitment to political representation, Dr. Parkash has also applied for a dedicated seat in the KPK Assembly exclusively reserved for women. Her nomination comes at the behest of Senator Rubina Khalid, a prominent figure in the PPP’s provincial leadership.
The formal endorsement of Dr. Saveera Parkash as a PPP candidate, complete with a party ticket, is slated to take place at a PPP event in Buner on Wednesday, marking a historic moment for minority representation in the political landscape of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
