Enforcement Directorate arrests ex-municipality chairman in West Bengal ration scam
In the ongoing probe into the alleged ration scam in West Bengal, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has made a significant arrest. Following the apprehension of Trinamool Congress minister Jyotipriya Mullick, the ED has now arrested former Bongaon municipality chairman, Shankar Adhya, in connection with the case.
This development comes on the heels of an attack on an ED team and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officers in Sandeshkhali, where a mob, believed to be supporters of Trinamool leader Shah Jahan Sheikh, assaulted them with weapons like lathis, stones, and bricks.
The arrested Trinamool leader, Sankar Adhaya, has been brought to the ED’s regional headquarters in Kolkata, with further legal proceedings anticipated. The incident has raised concerns about the escalating friction between the Bengal government and the central agency, prompting calls for an NIA investigation and drawing the attention of the state’s Governor, CV Anand.
