India Reports 743 New COVID-19 Cases; Total Active Caseload at 3,997
In the latest update, India has recorded 743 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, resulting in a total active caseload of 3,997, marking a slight increase of seven cases, according to the Union Health Ministry.
The cumulative count of coronavirus cases in India since the onset of the pandemic in January 2020 has now reached 4,50,12,484, with the recent 743 cases reported in the last day. The death toll from COVID-19 in India stands at 5,33,358, reflecting a rise of seven deaths in the same 24-hour period.
Notably, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified JN.1 as a distinct “variant of interest” due to its rapidly spreading nature. However, the WHO has assessed that it presents a “low” global public health risk.
Simultaneously, Maharashtra has reported 129 new cases of COVID-19, with the health department indicating that the number of patients infected with the JN.1 variant remains at 10. The ongoing monitoring of the situation emphasizes the continued vigilance required to manage the impact of the virus and its emerging variants.
