Nitish Kumar Sworn In as Chief Minister of Bihar for the Ninth Time Amid Political Shifts

In a noteworthy political development, Nitish Kumar, the chief of Janata Dal United (JD(U)), took the oath as Chief Minister of Bihar for the ninth time on January 28. This event follows a series of changes in political alliances.

Shortly after, BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha are scheduled to be sworn in. Choudhary, witnessing a rapid ascent in the BJP over the past seven years, was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party today. He is expected to serve as one of the two deputy Chief Ministers in the new NDA government under Nitish Kumar.

On the same day, Nitish Kumar resigned from the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) and the INDI alliance, the opposition bloc. He also stepped down from his position as the Chief Minister of Bihar, citing issues with the functioning. Subsequently, he staked a claim before Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to form a new government with the BJP and NDA.

Nitish Kumar’s political journey as the Chief Minister of Bihar began in 2000, marked by twists, turns, alliances, and resignations. His recent decision to depart from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left to form an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) sets the stage for his ninth term in office.
