Over 8,000 Participants Set to Join International Purple Fest 2024 in Goa
The upcoming International Purple Fest 2024, scheduled to kick off in Goa on January 8, is set to witness the enthusiastic participation of more than 8,000 individuals, as announced by Goa commissioner for persons with disabilities (PwDs), Guruprasad Pawaskar, on Saturday.
During the festival, assessment camps will be conducted, and free aid will be distributed, with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) unit at Goa Medical College and Hospital ensuring immediate access to artificial limbs. This initiative aims to eliminate waiting periods for individuals requiring artificial limbs after assessment, Pawaskar mentioned.
Spanning from January 8 to January 13, the festival will draw participants from India and abroad. In preparation for the event, awareness drives concerning Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) were conducted throughout Goa. Additionally, orientation programs were organized for 1,200 drivers and conductors of the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC), reported the official.
“We have trained approximately 800 volunteers for this festival, and there were training programs facilitated by PwDs, who better understand their requirements,” Pawaskar added, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the event.
