Rahul Gandhi set to contest Wayanad seat again in upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, confirms Congress MP
In a recent statement, Congress MP K Muraleedharan affirmed that former party president Rahul Gandhi is slated to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Wayanad constituency. Muraleedharan disclosed that the prevailing understanding is that all sitting MPs from Kerala will vie for re-election from their respective constituencies, with the exception of Kannur.
“The current arrangement, as I understand it, is that Rahul Gandhi will be contesting from Wayanad. There is no deviation from that plan,” Muraleedharan conveyed to reporters. Notably, Gandhi emerged victorious from the Wayanad constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing concerns within the INDIA alliance, Muraleedharan downplayed the issues involving West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. He asserted, “There are no problems in the INDIA alliance. When they all come to the Centre, everyone will be together against the BJP.”
Regarding the status of the alliance with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Muraleedharan clarified that the party will respect his decision to stay or leave, without exerting pressure. On the differences with Mamata Banerjee over seat-sharing in West Bengal, Muraleedharan mentioned that discussions were ongoing.
While acknowledging potential contests within the alliance in states like Kerala and Punjab, Muraleedharan emphasized that any division of votes would not be advantageous for the BJP in those regions.
