Samsung Health Enhances Sleep Coaching and Running Programs with Data-Driven Features

Samsung Electronics has introduced significant updates to its Samsung Health app, simplifying the initiation of Sleep Coaching by reducing the initial data requirements. This update also includes more personalized sleep guidance and expanded tiers in running programs, aimed at fostering sustainable health routines.

Enhanced Sleep Coaching with Reduced Data Entry Requirements

The update to Samsung Health’s sleep coaching functionality transitions from merely tracking sleep patterns to actively improving sleep quality by converting personal goals and data into actionable habits. Users can now commence Sleep Coaching with just three days of recorded data over the past two weeks, a notable decrease from the previous seven-day requirement within a month.

As part of the setup process, users complete a survey addressing sleep regularity, interruptions, caffeine and alcohol intake, and subjective sleep satisfaction. Coupled with three days of sleep data, the app assigns a personalized Sleep Animal symbol, formulating a customized coaching program ranging from four to eight weeks. The program adapts in real-time to users’ evolving sleep patterns, providing weekly recommendations that reflect lifestyle changes and tracking improvements in sleep satisfaction.

The program is grounded in behavioral sleep science principles, offering users daily checklists and tips to cultivate healthier routines, such as limiting screen time before bed, avoiding late caffeine consumption, and incorporating morning stretches.

Additionally, users gain access to detailed analysis reports. A newly introduced pentagon-shaped Sleep Balance graph aggregates key sleep indicators—sleep time, regularity, nighttime awakeness, satisfaction, and the Energy Score—into a comprehensive overview, highlighting trends and potential areas for improvement.

Morning insights provide a daily review of sleep data with actionable tips, integrating seamlessly with weekly and final reports. This linkage of daily actions to data-driven outcomes assists users in establishing long-term wellness habits.

Expanded Running Programs and Integration with Strava

In response to increased interest in running, Samsung Health’s Running Coach has been upgraded to provide a more comprehensive training experience. The number of training tiers has increased from 10 to 12, further supporting intermediate and advanced runners with personalized plans based on a 12-minute running test or historical running data. These new tiers allow users to set more ambitious goals and progressively enhance their performance.

To maintain motivation, Running Coach now features an enhanced sharing capability, enabling users to export workout data into social media-ready templates for broader community engagement.

Samsung also emphasizes ecosystem connectivity through its collaboration with Strava, a leading global fitness platform. Users can now import Strava routes directly into Samsung Health for running, trail running, and cycling, enhancing compatibility and convenience.

Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of Samsung’s Digital Health Team, commented, “Samsung Health’s personalized coaching empowers users to comprehend their health data, advancing towards everyday wellness. We will continue leveraging the Galaxy ecosystem to develop a trusted health platform.”

The enhanced features are set to roll out progressively via updates to the Samsung Health app starting in October.

Note: These features are available on Samsung Health App version 6.24 or above, compatible with Samsung Galaxy smartphones running Android OS 11 or above, and require specific Samsung devices for full functionality. Some features may be subject to future software updates, with availability varying by market and device.
