EaseMyTrip Temporarily Halts Maldives Flight Bookings in Solidarity with India Amid Online Dispute

Amidst an ongoing online campaign urging a boycott of the Maldives, EaseMyTrip, the Indian online travel company, has taken a significant step by suspending all flight bookings to the Maldives. This decision follows derogatory remarks made by certain now-suspended ministers against India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, specifically in response to his recent visit to Lakshadweep.
Nishant Pitti, the co-founder and CEO of EaseMyTrip, expressed solidarity with India through a social media post on Twitter, stating, “In solidarity with our nation, @EaseMyTrip has suspended all Maldives flight bookings.”
The move comes in the wake of a broader online campaign initiated by EaseMyTrip with the hashtag #ChaloLakshadweep, supporting a visit to Lakshadweep. The campaign, which began as an initiative to promote the scenic destination, gained momentum after recent events.
Headquartered in New Delhi, EaseMyTrip was founded in 2008 by Nishant Pitti, Rikant Pitti, and Prashant Pitti. Prashant Pitti, in a post on January 4, expressed the beauty of Lakshadweep, comparing its water and beaches to those of popular destinations like the Maldives and Seychelles. He also hinted at upcoming special offers to promote Lakshadweep, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the region.
