Apple to likely add dedicated ‘Camera Button’ to iPhone 16: Report

Apple is reportedly developing a new dedicated camera button for the upcoming iPhone 16 line, aimed at improving the photography experience when holding the device horizontally. According to a recent report by The Information citing insider sources, the new button could be located on the bottom right edge of the device, under a user’s index finger in landscape orientation.
This would allow quick access for taking photos and videos without adjusting hand placement. The move follows the introduction of a new Action button on last year’s iPhone 15 models, replacing the mute switch.
While some reports suggest the button will be a capacitive, haptic-based one for pressure sensitivity, The Information states it will be a mechanical button with both touch and pressure detection abilities. Potential features include swiping left/right to control zoom or light presses to focus.
The camera button, expected to be a key marketing highlight of the 2023 iPhones, would join the volume, power, and proprietary Action buttons found on the handset’s exterior. Apple has not confirmed plans for the new button, with the iPhone 16 lineup likely still months away from an anticipated September launch.
