Tesla Achieves 68.7% YoY Surge in China-Made EV Sales, BYD Records Strong Q4 with 45% YoY Jump

In December, U.S. automaker Tesla reported a remarkable 68.7% year-on-year increase in sales of China-made electric vehicles, reaching a total of 94,139 units, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). The surge was particularly evident in deliveries of China-made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, which witnessed a 14.2% uptick from November.

Meanwhile, Chinese competitor BYD showcased robust performance with its Dynasty and Ocean lineup of EVs and petrol-electric hybrid models, delivering 341,043 passenger vehicles in December. This marked a 13% increase from November and an impressive 45% jump year-on-year. BYD’s exceptional fourth quarter included record-breaking sales of 944,779 new energy vehicles, encompassing 526,409 pure electric vehicles (EVs).
