Fire at key Russian Oil Terminal after reported drone strike

UST-LUGA, Russia – A fire broke out Sunday at the giant Ust-Luga oil and gas terminal on Russia’s Baltic Sea after what Ukrainian media reported was a Ukrainian drone attack.

The terminal, located 110 miles west of St. Petersburg, ships stable gas condensate and oil products like naphtha, kerosene and diesel overseas. Owner Novatek suspended some operations due to the blaze.

It remains unclear how long the disruption will last or how global energy markets might be impacted. Critical infrastructure in the Leningrad region is now on high alert, with security forces ordered to destroy any drones spotted.

Interfax-Ukraine news agency, citing unnamed sources, said Ukraine’s security services executed a special operation targeting the terminal. “The Ust-Luga terminal is an important facility for the enemy,” one source stated.

The alleged attack aims to dent Russia’s economy and complicate fuel logistics for the military. With the terminal supplying refined oil products to Russian troops, any lasting outage could squeeze military supply chains.

The reported strike reflects Ukraine’s strategy of striking Russian economic and energy targets. The extent of damage and next steps remain fluid.
