Rashid Khan’s Recovery Raises Questions on T20I Series Against India
Afghanistan cricket sensation Rashid Khan, on the path to recovery from a recent lower-back surgery, sparks uncertainty regarding his participation in the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, set to commence on Thursday. The 25-year-old leg-spinner, a key player for Afghanistan, was absent from the recent T20I series against the United Arab Emirates and the Big Bash League due to his surgery.
During a recent training session at the IS Bindra Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Rashid, although not actively participating in batting, closely observed and shared insights with teammates. Recently named as the captain of Mumbai Indians Cape Town for SA20, replacing Rashid, Kieron Pollard took charge as the regular captain for the tournament.
Despite Rashid’s gradual return to training, the team management remains cautious, emphasizing the importance of not rushing his recovery. Known for his mentorship role during the ODI World Cup, Rashid continues to guide and share his experience, a valuable asset for Afghanistan, especially in Indian conditions.
The upcoming bilateral T20I series between India and Afghanistan presents a new challenge, marking the first time the two sides will face off in this format. The prevailing extreme cold conditions are expected to introduce the dew factor, influencing the match dynamics. Despite preventive measures such as anti-dew chemicals, the impact of dew remains a significant concern, according to sources within the state association.
