Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has commented on Shreyas Iyer’s performance during India’s recent tour of South Africa. Iyer scored just 41 runs in 4 innings at an average of 13.67, but Gavaskar believes that he was not the only batter who struggled on the tricky pitches.
Gavaskar pointed out that, apart from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, no other Indian player scored many runs. Gavaskar suggested that the selection committee would likely give Iyer more chances, given the challenging conditions faced by all the batters.
The tour left a bitter-sweet taste in the mouths of Indian players, with the 1-1 draw being satisfactory but the performance of Indian batters on tricky pitches leaving a lot to be desired.
