UK General Election Likely in Second Half of 2024, Says PM Rishi Sunak During Visit to Mansfield
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hinted on January 4 that the UK general election is likely to take place in the second half of 2024.
During his visit to Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, Sunak indicated that he still has significant tasks to complete before calling for an election, expected by January 2025.
While not ruling out an election in May, Sunak seems inclined to go to the polls around the two-year mark since taking charge at 10 Downing Street in October 2022.
Despite acknowledging the challenges of the past year, he expressed optimism for a better year ahead and emphasized his focus on managing the economy, cutting taxes, and addressing issues like illegal migration. The repeal of the Fixed-term Parliaments Act in 2022 restored the flexibility for prime ministers to set election dates.
